It Has Not Escaped Our Notice #423

Here is a bibelot passed my way by Prof S. C. of Nebraska, recently …sign
On a related theme, here is something I trod in picked up found on the internet courtesy of my friend Ms J. G. of Norwich. The story goes that a contractor was instructed to stencil ‘Diesel Fuel’ and ‘No Smoking’ in Arabic on the side of this tanker. A better case for spoken punctuation has never been made.

Just a brief note: according to that famed source of infallible information, Wikipedia notes that this town of Crestwood (where Chester Stranczek was mayor) is in Illinois. It further notes the following information:

“In April 2009, the Chicago Tribune in an investigative article titled “Poison in the Well” reported that the water from a well used to supply residents with drinking water had been contaminated with chemicals (including two linked to the known carcinogen perchloroethylene) from dry cleaning solvents. Village of Crestwood officials, including the Mayor, and the former Mayor Chester Stranczek are accused of secretly and illegally using the well and lying to regulatory authorities in order to cover that up. The ensuing investigation has generated three class-action lawsuits, two wrongful deaths lawsuits, several federal raids, but no criminal charges yet.”

Ha! The second photo reminds me of the scene in the Battle of Britain movie where an exasperated squadron leader shouts, “Silence! In Polish!” to his charges.

‘Diesel Fuel in Arbic’ sounds like a record by King Crimson.
