Sex, Violence, Aliens, Violent Sex, Violent Sex with Aliens

Sales of my SF bonkbuster Siege of Stars and the first of its sequelae Scourge of Stars are pootling along nicely, and if either of you are remotely interested in what (if anything) goes through an author’s mind while he is writing, you might consider perusing this interview with Keith Brooke of the most estimable Infinity Plus webzine and publishing emporium. Of course you could always buy the book…

Erm, Just to check… These are consenting aliens, aren’t they…?

I don’t think this was addressed in the interview – was the idea of the Drove influenced by the subjects of your doctoral research (Bovinae, IIRC)? I’ve got one of Jenny’s books and a re-read of Silent Spring up next in my queue, but perhaps I’ll add Siege of Stars.

On a (distantly) related note (unfortunately this is how my nonlinear mind works): the movie Beasts of the Southern Wild, which has a rising sea level/climate change component, also has aurochs. Which apparently resemble Suidae, rather than Bovinae. o_O

I don’t think the Drove were influenced by bovids – probably more by creatures, definitely called the Drove, in a Lovecraft story. But you never know. Spotting sources is a dodgy business, even for the author.
