{"id":829,"date":"2011-12-09T10:45:04","date_gmt":"2011-12-09T10:45:04","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/occamstypewriter.org\/erikacule\/?p=829"},"modified":"2025-01-30T07:42:20","modified_gmt":"2025-01-30T07:42:20","slug":"stocktake","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/occamstypewriter.org\/erikacule\/2011\/12\/09\/stocktake\/","title":{"rendered":"Stocktake"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>One year since the <a href=\"https:\/\/occamstypewriter.org\/erikacule\/2010\/12\/10\/cliffhanger-2\/\">launch<\/a> of Occam&#8217;s Typewriter, one year since my <a href=\"https:\/\/occamstypewriter.org\/erikacule\/2010\/11\/14\/status_upgrade\/\">MPhil to PhD upgrade exam<\/a>, and one year (more or less) to go until the end of the PhD. This seems a suitable place for stocktaking. <\/p>\n<p>This year&#8217;s blogging has brought unexpected rewards, from finding out more about PhD practises <a href=\"https:\/\/occamstypewriter.org\/erikacule\/2010\/12\/17\/phds-around-the-world\/\">globally<\/a>, to <a href=\"https:\/\/occamstypewriter.org\/erikacule\/2011\/03\/13\/the-future-of-imperial-science-blogging\/\">leading<\/a> a <a href=\"http:\/\/sciencebloggingworkshop.wordpress.com\/about-the-workshop\/\">workshop<\/a> for new PhD student bloggers. I have now had the privilege of <a href=\"http:\/\/occamstypewriter.org\/vwxynot\/2011\/06\/03\/geek-tourism\/\">meeting<\/a> all the OT bloggers except <a href=\"http:\/\/occamstypewriter.org\/stevecaplan\/\">Steve<\/a> &#8211; but I cannot say I have <a href=\"http:\/\/occamstypewriter.org\/stevecaplan\/2011\/09\/26\/announcing-the-first-documented-occams-typewriter-scientific-collaboration\/\">co-authored a paper<\/a> with him either. <\/p>\n<p>In common with <a href=\"http:\/\/occamstypewriter.org\/vwxynot\/2011\/12\/09\/occams-birthday\/\">Cath<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/occamstypewriter.org\/scurry\/2011\/12\/09\/first-anniversary\/\">Stephen<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/occamstypewriter.org\/blog\/2011\/12\/09\/happy-birthday-to-us\/\">Richard<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/occamstypewriter.org\/athenedonald\/2011\/12\/09\/all-human-life-is-there-happy-1st-birthday-occamt\/\">Athene<\/a>, and everybody else, here&#8217;s to a great second year at OT.   <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>One year since the launch of Occam&#8217;s Typewriter, one year since my MPhil to PhD upgrade exam, and one year (more or less) to go until the end of the PhD.
