And as a gardener\/amateur brewer, mildew and mould and other nasties can really ruin my roses\/vines\/beer. <\/p>\n<p>But there&#8217;s something about fungus, especially that not of the common or garden toadstool or mushroom variety, that, as a keen photographer of the world around me, is fascinating. <\/p>\n<p><a data-flickr-embed=\"true\"  href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/pommiebastards\/22473426448\/in\/dateposted-public\/\" title=\"Pixie flats\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/farm6.staticflickr.com\/5711\/22473426448_69e4457514_z.jpg\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" alt=\"Pixie flats\"><\/a><script async src=\"\/\/embedr.flickr.com\/assets\/client-code.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>On a walk through <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kent.gov.uk\/leisure-and-community\/parks-and-outdoor-activities\/shorne-woods-country-park\">Shorne Woods<\/a> last weekend, we happened upon these rather splendid specimens. Some looked like classic fairy flats; others like pencil shavings shaded in and scattered over still-living trees; yet others glowed with a strange orange translucence. <\/p>\n<p><a data-flickr-embed=\"true\"  href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/pommiebastards\/22473343128\/in\/dateposted-public\/\" title=\"Orange ears\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/farm1.staticflickr.com\/583\/22473343128_78a920f7c9_z.jpg\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" alt=\"Orange ears\"><\/a><script async src=\"\/\/embedr.flickr.com\/assets\/client-code.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>Shorne Woods is a <a href=\"https:\/\/shareweb.kent.gov.uk\/Documents\/leisure-and-culture\/countryside-and-coast\/country-parks\/shorne-woods-executive-summary-march-09.pdf\">Site of Special Scientific Interest<\/a>, and there are signs aplenty warning visitors not to take any specimens. <\/p>\n<p><a data-flickr-embed=\"true\"  href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/pommiebastards\/22703666090\/in\/dateposted-public\/\" title=\"Pencil shavings\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/farm1.staticflickr.com\/563\/22703666090_0de316876f_z.jpg\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" alt=\"Pencil shavings\"><\/a><script async src=\"\/\/embedr.flickr.com\/assets\/client-code.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>No need to tell me: I don&#8217;t know what any of them are, but I&#8217;m fairly sure I don&#8217;t want to be frying them up with my eggs and bacon on a Sunday morning.
