{"id":297,"date":"2009-09-05T20:02:30","date_gmt":"2009-09-05T20:02:30","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/occamstypewriter.org\/rpg\/2009\/09\/05\/on_london\/"},"modified":"2009-09-05T20:02:30","modified_gmt":"2009-09-05T20:02:30","slug":"on_london","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/occamstypewriter.org\/rpg\/2009\/09\/05\/on_london\/","title":{"rendered":"On London"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Matt Brown talked about this <a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=7T2wIpCq0RE\">great city<\/a> and how about half a million people are involved, one way or another, in science and medicine. <\/p>\n<p>\nBefore I left for <a href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/pommiebastards\/sets\/72157602293823468\/\">Australia<\/a>, nearly four years ago, I thought I would never want to work, let alone live, in London. Oxford and Cambridge had been the limits of my metropolitan exposure. But three years in Sydney made me realize that I could indeed cope with a city, despite my <a href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/pommiebastards\/sets\/72157603933518171\/\">country boy<\/a> leanings. Then I came over for the blogging conference last year, and the rest is <a href=\"http:\/\/network.nature.com\/people\/rpg\/blog\/2009\/03\/30\/on-arrival\">history<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\nQuite against all expectation, and perhaps reason, I arrived in London and immediately fell in love. This city; the people; the history; the opportunity: the sheer unbridled <em>life<\/em> that&#8217;s here.<\/p>\n<p>\nLast weekend (while in Lincoln for my dad&#8217;s 65th birthday weekend), and seeing as I had a significant birthday myself this April (and such things <em>should<\/em> last all year), I also treated myself to a new <a href=\"http:\/\/www.jessops.com\/ce-images\/PRODUCT\/PRODUCT_ENLARGED\/ACANOCM205130660.jpg\">shiny<\/a>.
