{"id":86,"date":"2008-03-07T02:06:29","date_gmt":"2008-03-07T02:06:29","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/occamstypewriter.org\/rpg\/2008\/03\/07\/pier_review\/"},"modified":"2008-03-07T02:06:29","modified_gmt":"2008-03-07T02:06:29","slug":"pier_review","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/occamstypewriter.org\/rpg\/2008\/03\/07\/pier_review\/","title":{"rendered":"Pier review"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>If you haven&#8217;t seen any of the discussions about &#8216;double-blind&#8217; <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.nature.com\/peer-to-peer\/2008\/03\/nature_cell_biologys_peerrevie.html\">peer review<\/a> then you&#8217;re probably living under a rock (and not reading this, anyway).<\/p>\n<p>\nI happen to disagree with the philosophy that says that the methods of doing research should be published according to those same methods \u2014 not least because actually, most of the stuff I do is not double- (or even single-) blinded.<\/p>\n<p>\nMy own take on the matter is that refereeing should be totally nonymous:  in other words, the journals should tell the authors to whom they are sending the article for review, and the reviewer&#8217;s names be published along with the paper.<\/p>\n<p>\n<strong>That<\/strong> is complete transparency, and would possibly make reviewers take responsibility for their comments.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><br \/>\n(&#8216;Pier review&#8217;.
