(NPG is the company that runs the <em>Nature Network<\/em> blogging platform).<\/p>\n<p>That&#8217;s right: 400%.<\/p>\n<p>I know nothing about the ins and outs of this deal. I&#8217;m <em>guessing<\/em> that it&#8217;s an opening stance in a negotiation on price, but it is clear from a <a href=\"http:\/\/libraries.ucsd.edu\/collections\/Nature_Faculty_Letter-June_2010.pdf\">letter <\/a> sent to all UC faculty that their staff are <strong>not happy<\/strong>. The letter lays out their case in some detail and their discussions about a possible boycott of the Nature stable of journals.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m hoping that similar deals are not being offered to UK institutions where budgets are shrinking rather than inflating.<\/p>\n<p>I see the story has been picked up by Daniel Cressy at <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.nature.com\/news\/thegreatbeyond\/2010\/06\/uc_threatens_systemwide_boycot.html\">The Great Beyond<\/a>, an in-house Nature blog.
