{"id":163,"date":"2010-09-10T08:35:19","date_gmt":"2010-09-10T08:35:19","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/occamstypewriter.org\/scurry\/2010\/09\/10\/three_things\/"},"modified":"2013-04-24T14:34:38","modified_gmt":"2013-04-24T14:34:38","slug":"three_things","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/occamstypewriter.org\/scurry\/2010\/09\/10\/three_things\/","title":{"rendered":"Three Things"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Three <em>unrelated<\/em> things.<\/p>\n<p>The first is to alert you to a little <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.nature.com\/scurry\/2010\/09\/05\/traditional-medicine-inhibition-of-the-clinician-ambition\">update of my last post<\/a><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.nature.com\/scurry\/2010\/09\/05\/traditional-medicine-inhibition-of-the-clinician-ambition\"> <\/a>on the Sense about Science demonstration outside the Department of Health to raise awareness about their lax proposals for the regulation of traditional medicine. The protest passed off successfully on Wednesday and there are now photos of the event available on flickr.<\/p>\n<p>The second is to flag up the lovely new banner that I have spread across the top of my blog thanks to the recent implementation of this feature. I put this up on Wednesday and nobody said a thing. I am disappointed in each and every one of you. ;-p<\/p>\n<p>Third, and most importantly,  I wanted to direct you to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.guardian.co.uk\/science\/political-science\/2010\/sep\/09\/vince-cable-science-policy-excellence\">this piece<\/a> on The Guardian site that I have co-written with Dr Evan Harris. It is our analysis of that now infamous 45% figure of <em>supposedly<\/em> non-excellent science that Business Secretary Vince Cable bandied about so wantonly in a <a href=\"http:\/\/news.bbc.co.uk\/today\/hi\/today\/newsid_8978000\/8978968.stm\">radio interview<\/a> on Wednesday morning.
