In fact, I&#8217;ve decided that it&#8217;s my favourite element. Each day a different person \u2013 usually a scientist or broadcaster (or sometimes both) \u2014 picks out their favourite element, and it is making for a lovely and informative series if short films.<\/p>\n<p>So far my favourite is Helen Czerski&#8217;s introduction to calcium on <a href=\"http:\/\/advent.richannel.org\">Dec 5th<\/a> (which has echoes of an <a href=\"http:\/\/aleph0.clarku.edu\/huxley\/CE8\/Chalk.html\">earlier talk<\/a> given by Thomas Henry Huxley, something of a <a href=\"https:\/\/occamstypewriter.org\/scurry\/2009\/08\/31\/beachbooks_3_uncommon_science_and_danger\/\">hero of mine<\/a> and a regular performer in his day at the Royal Institution).<\/p>\n<p>But I was also touched by Martyn Poliakoff&#8221;s revelation of the origin of his affinity for Sodium the following day.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I may not know much about Chemistry but I know what I like.
