The <a href=\"http:\/\/richannel.org\/celebrating-crystallography\">Celebrating Crystallography<\/a> video made last year by the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.rigb.org\">Royal Institution<\/a>, which I narrated and helped to script-edit, has won the\u00a0the EuroScience\u00a0New Media award. Full details are available <a href=\"http:\/\/www.rigb.org\/about\/news\/winter-2014\/european-science-tv-and-new-media-awards\">on the RI blog<\/a> but it&#8217;s great\u00a0to see a project come to such fruition.<\/p>\n<p>The film came about as a result of an <a href=\"http:\/\/www.stfc.ac.uk\/home.aspx\">STFC<\/a> grant on which\u00a0Mike Glazer and I were co-applicants, alongside the Gail Cardew from the RI. The project itself was led by Rob Cawston who was the RI&#8217;s web channel manager and worked on it alongside Ed Prosser. Of course the script of any film is a key element but the real genius here for my money\u00a0is the imaginative and funny way that the story\u00a0was animated by the folks at <a href=\"http:\/\/12foot6.com\">12foot6<\/a>. Even if I do say so myself, it&#8217;s a joyous 3 minutes that gives a great snapshot of an important piece of science.<\/p>\n<p>Ed has promised me a photo of the &#8220;ridiculously heavy trophy thing&#8221; which I will add in due course.
