{"id":2923,"date":"2016-03-07T22:26:31","date_gmt":"2016-03-07T21:26:31","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/occamstypewriter.org\/scurry\/?p=2923"},"modified":"2016-03-07T22:30:51","modified_gmt":"2016-03-07T21:30:51","slug":"icymi-no-2-time-for-positive-action-on-negative-results","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/occamstypewriter.org\/scurry\/2016\/03\/07\/icymi-no-2-time-for-positive-action-on-negative-results\/","title":{"rendered":"ICYMI No. 2: Time for positive action on negative results"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Today I had a <a href=\"http:\/\/cen.acs.org\/articles\/94\/i10\/s-time-positive-action-negative.html\">short opinion piece in <em>Chemical and Engineering News<\/em><\/a> on publishing negative results, a topic that I covered about this time last year in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/science\/occams-corner\/2015\/mar\/08\/on-the-importance-of-being-negative\"><em>Guardian<\/em><\/a>\u00a0on the occasion of the publication my lab\u2019s first paper on an experiment that didn\u2019t work out.<\/p>\n<p>Basically, I think it\u2019s a good idea. The practice will help to correct the positive bias in the research literature, and to map out territory that has been fruitlessly explored (so avoiding unnecessary re-investigation).
