The participants came from 22 different countries, with every (inhabited) continent represented. There was talk of rights, freedoms, responsibilities, tolerance, and the Canadian family.<br \/>\nBut the best part?<br \/>\nThe oath was administered by a scientist!<br \/>\nOne I&#8217;d heard of!<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/farm4.static.flickr.com\/3614\/3579325258_ec6befd2b7_o.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1024\" height=\"768\" \/><br \/>\n_Me with <a href=\"http:\/\/cmdr.ubc.ca\/bobh\/bob.html_\">Robert Hancock<\/a><br \/>\nDr. Hancock talked about his own experience of becoming Canadian after time spent living in England, Singapore, Australia, Germany, and the US. And he also delivered a very strong message about protecting the environment of this beautiful country.<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/farm4.static.flickr.com\/3194\/3578550493_cf450577a3_o.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1024\" height=\"768\" \/><br \/>\n<em>Beautiful indeed&#8230; and hot enough for a swim in the Pacific yesterday, despite the snow on the mountains<\/em><br \/>\nThe icing on the cake of a wonderful day.<br \/>\nAnd after the cake, the champagne&#8230;<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/farm4.static.flickr.com\/3664\/3579358090_64dda0bffc_o.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1024\" height=\"768\" \/><br \/>\n&#8230;in plastic cups, because you&#8217;re not allowed to drink alcohol on the beach.<br \/>\nWe didn&#8217;t get caught, but for the first time, I wasn&#8217;t worried.<br \/>\nThey can&#8217;t deport me any more.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>As many of you already know, I became a Canadian citizen yesterday.
