We have excellent resources for this kind of work, including extensive outcomes-linked tissue microarrays for immunohistochemical assessment of marker status and subsequent statistical analysis. However, the representation of some of the rarer tumour subtypes in these arrays is something we still need to work on.<br \/>\nAt a meeting today, one of the stats guys handed the PI a group of <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Kaplan%E2%80%93Meier_estimator\">Kaplan-Meier survival curves<\/a> based on the expression of a candidate biomarker in different tumour subtypes. Some of the curves looked very promising indeed.<br \/>\nOne of them looked like this:<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/19344191@N00\/4309277049\/\" title=\"kaplan by wonder_brit, on Flickr\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/farm3.static.flickr.com\/2718\/4309277049_3ab848243c.jpg\" width=\"500\" height=\"391\" alt=\"kaplan\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nThe PI said, &#8220;you know, I&#8217;ve seen spin-off biotech companies formed in response to curves like this.
