{"id":2098,"date":"2012-09-04T21:17:20","date_gmt":"2012-09-04T21:17:20","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/occamstypewriter.org\/vwxynot\/?p=2098"},"modified":"2014-01-04T00:25:24","modified_gmt":"2014-01-04T00:25:24","slug":"useful-resources-for-trainees","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/occamstypewriter.org\/vwxynot\/2012\/09\/04\/useful-resources-for-trainees\/","title":{"rendered":"Useful resources for trainees"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>As part of my <a href=\"https:\/\/occamstypewriter.org\/vwxynot\/2012\/07\/20\/ask-the-blogosphere-how-can-we-help-trainees-with-their-fellowship-applications\/\">new role<\/a> as the go-to person for everything related to my department&#8217;s trainees, I&#8217;ve put together a list of resources that I thought some readers might also find useful or interesting. <a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/document\/d\/1irAH4zCaHqDNGJx1dPo_hjsRO61qkwqEZbPY_OOIhGo\/edit?usp=sharing\">The list is posted at GoogleDocs <\/a>and includes websites, books and podcasts relating to the Canadian Common CV, proposal \/ thesis \/ manuscript writing, giving presentations, communicating with the public and the media, academic and other career advice, local events and organisations, etc &#8211; plus PhD Comics and assorted other <del>time-wasters<\/del> valuable insights into academic culture.<\/p>\n<p>The list obviously has a local focus, but there are resources on the list that should appeal to people in other locations too.<\/p>\n<p>If you know of any related resources I&#8217;ve missed, please add them in the comments of this post and I&#8217;ll include them in future versions of my list. This very much includes blog posts &#8211; I&#8217;ve included a few, but unfortunately my memory of blog posts I didn&#8217;t write is very short-term, and I <em>know<\/em> I&#8217;ve missed some excellent posts that deserve to be included.
