{"id":2286,"date":"2013-02-20T00:04:44","date_gmt":"2013-02-20T00:04:44","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/occamstypewriter.org\/vwxynot\/?p=2286"},"modified":"2013-02-20T00:05:27","modified_gmt":"2013-02-20T00:05:27","slug":"the-journal-of-anthropomorphism","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/occamstypewriter.org\/vwxynot\/2013\/02\/20\/the-journal-of-anthropomorphism\/","title":{"rendered":"The Journal of Anthropomorphism"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>While browsing\u00a0journal TOCs in my RSS reader earlier today, I realised that I seem to have subconsciously assigned human personalities to some of the journals I read most frequently.<\/p>\n<p>For example:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><em>Current Biology <\/em>is an extrovert who enthusiastically dives into any ongoing topic of conversation, and talks with their hands a lot. Fun at parties;<\/li>\n<li><em>Nucleic Acids Research<\/em> is an older man in a tweed jacket who quietly talks with great authority about the arcane technical details of his obscure hobby over a cup of Earl Grey;<\/li>\n<li><em>Genome Research <\/em>is that one friend who always has the most recent smart phone and tablet;<\/li>\n<li><em>Oncogene <\/em>is an old friend from my grad school days. They don&#8217;t seem to have moved on much in the intervening years, and I don&#8217;t see them very often, but when I do it&#8217;s always nice to catch up and reminisce.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Is this normal, or have\u00a0I\u00a0developed a very specific form of synesthesia?<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>While browsing\u00a0journal TOCs in my RSS reader earlier today, I realised that I seem to have subconsciously assigned human personalities to some of the journals I read most frequently.
