My apologies to any of you who read both, but dinner is almost ready&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>The ceremony was great. The participants came from 22 different countries, with every (inhabited) continent represented. There was talk of rights, freedoms, responsibilities, tolerance, and the Canadian family.<\/p>\n<p>But the best part?<\/p>\n<p>The oath was administered by a scientist!<\/p>\n<p>One I\u2019d heard of!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/3.bp.blogspot.com\/_Xjsb8ObOj0k\/SiSSKHc4m4I\/AAAAAAAABAc\/Rx_Fb7ggt3I\/s1600-h\/DSC02029.JPG\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/3.bp.blogspot.com\/_Xjsb8ObOj0k\/SiSSKHc4m4I\/AAAAAAAABAc\/Rx_Fb7ggt3I\/s400\/DSC02029.JPG\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><em>Me with <a href=\"http:\/\/cmdr.ubc.ca\/bobh\/bob.html\">Robert Hancock<\/a><\/em><\/p>\n<p>Dr. Hancock talked about his own experience of becoming Canadian after time spent living in England, Singapore, Australia, Germany, and the US. And he also delivered a very strong message about protecting the environment of this beautiful country. <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/2.bp.blogspot.com\/_Xjsb8ObOj0k\/SiSSKcDqHNI\/AAAAAAAABAk\/J8SzVPRfQZo\/s1600-h\/DSC02032.JPG\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/2.bp.blogspot.com\/_Xjsb8ObOj0k\/SiSSKcDqHNI\/AAAAAAAABAk\/J8SzVPRfQZo\/s400\/DSC02032.JPG\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><em>Beautiful indeed\u2026 and hot enough for a swim in the Pacific, despite the snow on the mountains<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The icing on the cake of a wonderful day.<\/p>\n<p>And after the cake, the champagne\u2026<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/1.bp.blogspot.com\/_Xjsb8ObOj0k\/SiSSK4m39oI\/AAAAAAAABAs\/wDArV8u76Go\/s1600-h\/DSC02030.JPG\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/1.bp.blogspot.com\/_Xjsb8ObOj0k\/SiSSK4m39oI\/AAAAAAAABAs\/wDArV8u76Go\/s400\/DSC02030.JPG\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2026in plastic cups, because you\u2019re not allowed to drink alcohol on the beach.<\/p>\n<p>We didn\u2019t get caught, but for the first time, I wasn\u2019t worried.<\/p>\n<p>They can\u2019t deport me any more.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Copied from my Nature Network blog.
