It seems like a compromise verdict to me, but because jury deliberations stay confidential in Canada we will probably never know the reasoning behind it.<\/p>\n<p>It seems like he&#8217;s never going to get out of prison anyway, so I guess it doesn&#8217;t matter from a practical point of view.<\/p>\n<p>Jennifer O&#8217;Meara from Attack of the 5-foot woman <a href=\"http:\/\/northumberland.typepad.com\/attack_of_the_5foot_woman\/2007\/12\/pickton-convict.html\">agrees<\/a>. As she says,<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>&#8220;I\u2019m not sure what exactly constitutes planning for the courts. It\u2019s obviously not the drive Pickton made from his Port Coquitlam pig farm to downtown Vancouver to pick up the women. Or the methodical disposal of their bodies.<\/p>\n<p>Can you indeliberately do something six times?<\/p>\n<p>Say when I went to a bar, got drunk and I got in a bar fight and killed someone. If I did this six times the judge would be right to say I should have known when I went to that bar and had all those drinks that I was going to kill someone. Putting myself in that situation for the sixth time seems deliberate to me.&#8221; <\/p>\n<p>_________________________<\/p>\n<p>Update: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cbc.ca\/canada\/british-columbia\/story\/2007\/12\/11\/bc-picktonsentencing.html\">he got the maximum sentence<\/a>, which is equivalent to that for first degree murder.
