In which we change venue: FringeFrivolous Blogging Unconference 2009

In the true spirit of spontaneity and general dishevelment of my life at the moment, I hereby announce that our 21st August event will not take place at the RI as previously announced.

Instead, we’ll be gathering at the offices of Mendeley. Props to Victor Henning for arranging not only a gorgeous roof terrace, but also Mendeley’s generous sponsorship towards drinks and snacks on the night. (I’m not sure he can secure summer weather to go along with it, but fingers crossed. In case of rain, never fear: I am reliably informed that the indoors bit is rather swanky too.)

The address is 9 Back Hill, London, in the Farringdon area, and you can see a map here.

Ideas for Untopics are already being exchanged on our dedicated forums – do register your interest and join in the brainstorming session if you plan on attending!

The RI heard about the karaoke plans, didn’t they?

  2. Richard P. Grant says:

    Damn. How did you guess?

  3. Jennifer Rohn says:

    Once I was afraid, I was petrified…

  4. Joe Dunckley says:

Sign me up then — just ’round the corner from us. Are we making Farringdon/GIR the new scientific publishing quarter of the city?

  5. Jennifer Rohn says:

I wouldn’t classify blogging as scientific publishing, by a long shot. At least not the sort of of blogging I like!

  6. Joe Dunckley says:

oh, I was referring to BMC & Mendeley being neighbours.

  7. Richard Wintle says:

    sob
I even know more or less where that is and feel confident I could find it, having lurked around the nearby ICRF on one memorable occasion.
And as I’ve pointed out earlier, London street addresses are easy.
    (not)

  8. Graham Steel says:

    @Joe, quite !!
(The link to that map was quite handy for me as I have scheduled meetings at Mendeley then BMC Monday morning, 24th before zipping up to Cambridge for one with PLoS).
Unfortunately, I have a prior engagement in the evening on the 21st, so won’t be able to make it to the Unconference 🙁

  9. Richard P. Grant says:

    Nice link Richard.
You do realize of course that it’s deliberately designed like that to confuse the French in case of invasion. Seems to have worked.

  10. Carmen D'Cruz says:

Hello, I should be able to make it, can I bring a friend?

  11. Jennifer Rohn says:

Hi Carmen, that is absolutely fine. Looking forward to seeing you!
Richard W, did we lurk at the building-formerly-known-as-the-ICRF at the same time? I worked there 1997-1999.

  12. Richard Wintle says:

Jenny – no, I visited a friend there in 1991. He was in Peter Goodfellow’s lab… Peter was long gone by the time you arrived.
I was in London again in 1998 visiting another friend at Great Ormond Street, which is not a million miles away from ICRF, but it seems unlikely we crossed paths then either.
    Next time maybe 😉

  13. Richard Wintle says:

So what’s it called now then?

  14. Elisa Parish says:

Is this where we sign up? Count me in then!

  15. Pilar Carreras says:

Count on me also, I may bring a friend if possible 🙂

  16. Mun Keat Looi says:

In case there is a need to formally ‘sign’up’ I’m definitely in. Looking forward to it.

  17. Jennifer Rohn says:

Sorry, I haven’t been monitoring this thread. All the latest information and registration is to be found here:

Please note that as we are heavily overscubscribed, I’d ask everyone to consider not bringing a guest if at all possible.

  18. Richard P. Grant says:

We did, because there weren’t any fecking spammers there.
