Three Things

Three unrelated things.

The first is to alert you to a little update of my last post on the Sense about Science demonstration outside the Department of Health to raise awareness about their lax proposals for the regulation of traditional medicine. The protest passed off successfully on Wednesday and there are now photos of the event available on flickr.

The second is to flag up the lovely new banner that I have spread across the top of my blog thanks to the recent implementation of this feature. I put this up on Wednesday and nobody said a thing. I am disappointed in each and every one of you. ;-p

Third, and most importantly, I wanted to direct you to this piece on The Guardian site that I have co-written with Dr Evan Harris. It is our analysis of that now infamous 45% figure of supposedly non-excellent science that Business Secretary Vince Cable bandied about so wantonly in a radio interview on Wednesday morning. We ask Mr Cable to revise his careless estimate of UK science.

The new-look banner is very nice indeed! Sorry it took so long for me to notice…

  2. Matt Brown says:

Yes, very nice. And well done for overcoming MT4’s equivalent of the Phase Problem to get it there.

  3. Maxine Clarke says:

Ooh yes, it is lovely! I spotted Eva’s because she added a comment to the NN blog post announcing the new features. I did look at a few others but when I saw only red, still, I gave up. (One problem of reading blogs in RSS is that they all look the same unless you click through to make a comment).
I do like it, though – a mixture of serious (B/W) and glamourous (shiny).

I’m on holiday. Is that a good enough excuse? Well, actually, I’m not as on holiday as I’d like to be, having to prepare a lecture for a seminar next week, but at least the public libraries in Barcelona are air conditioned.
is your monochrome colour scheme across the whole blog (not just the banner) intentional?

  5. Frank Norman says:

Thanks for pointing out the banner… I thought I was just getting cataracts. 😉

  6. Ken Doyle says:

I just noticed the banner, and also a new formatting toolbar for comments! I guess I haven’t been around here as much lately, since it takes so long for the home page to load.

  7. Åsa Karlström says:

Nice banner and format. Very stylish.
As for the other more serious things, glad to hear that the protest went well. And now I’m off to read that Gaurdian article 🙂 (I think I might need to read up a bit more on this Cable guy since I am at a loss for who/what/why…. the down side of not reading about British politics every day?

  8. Stephen Curry says:

Thanks to everyone who chimed in above – you may now return to your seats.
As for the rest of you – stay in the corner! 😉
