Ode dear

Charles Darwin
Was a star in
Eighteen fifty-nine

His theory
Caused a fury
Among lovers of design

“No Adam?
Far too random –
That’s never a solution!”

But Charlie smiled –
He was not riled:
“Sorry, that’s evolution.”

It’s catching on, this Darwin thing.

    Quick. Kill it.

    Too late – it’s already developed multi-thug resistance…

  3. Cath Ennis says:

    Giggl… no, actually, groan.

  4. Richard Wintle says:

Nice. Succinct, and uses a rhyming scheme I can get my head around. Extra points for the assonance (say what?) of “theory” and “fury”.

  5. Stephen Curry says:

Sorry Cath (about the pun), but the poem was inspired last night by your fine example (and of course by Henry). And it was necessary also to to satisfy my craving for adulation.
@Richard W. – assonance? You mean, ‘when the rhyme doesn’t work’ (according to Educated Rita…. But I do appreciate your sophisticated palate!

  6. Henry Gee says:

    A CLERIHEW ON STEPHEN CURRY
    Stephen Curry
    Was never in a hurry
To adopt the latest poetic fad.
But when he did, the result wasn’t half bad.

  7. Stephen Curry says:

Ha, ha – thank you Henry.
