I am pleased to be able to announce that, having taken up jogging at the turn of the year, I can now run faster than a rocket. Well, strictly speaking, I can now run faster that the Rocket–or rather a very fine replica thereof–which I overtook yesterday lunchtime in Kensington Gardens. This was the view as I whizzed past:
Anyone wishing to take a ride in the train has until the 18th April. Or you can touch the real thing at the Science Museum down the road.
Ah, you were “whizzing past” (oh dear, the first time I typed that it came out as “shizzing”…). That explains the tilt.
Actually I rather like the artistic angle of the photo. But my real question is this: is the original yellow? I’d always pictured it as a pleasant combination of shiny steel and polished brass.
You’re right Richard – the original is in the Science Museum, just down the street from the park and it was not yellow. There are pictures on Wikipedia, of course.
Not sure whether the yellow colour-scheme came from.
Congratulations Stephen!
With your running going so well, have you entered any races? You might consider “this one”:http://www.racethetrain.com/event-description.html ?
Ha, ha – thanks Erika but I am still only just about faster than the first working steam locomotive. Plus I’m not aiming to race anything or anyone any time soon.
As long as I can keep moving forward, I’m happy!
People keep telling me to enter a race. It allegedly makes running more fun if you’re training for something specific.
I’ve actually put all running on hold until after the 260 km / 160 mile sponsored bike ride I’m doing in June, but I’m beginning to see their point; this is the first time I’ve ever trained with a specific event in mind, and it does give you a certain focus (and sore legs).
