I am fascinated by the English language, especially its inherent ambiguities. This email, from staff in our media kitchen, serves to illustrate:
hi everyone, there will be delays in autoclaving today due to building steam problems.
Perhaps he shouldn’t have had those beans for lunch.
I think it’s very kind of them to build the problems they’re going to inflict you with in advance. It must make you feel they care.
The culprit is almost always the -ings, isn’t it? Someone should have a word with them and sort it out.
