Fairytale of New York

Some attain blogging, some are born to it; and others have it thrust upon them.

Here, then, is my new home. And it’s mine, all mine. Apart from those other people over there. My, isn’t this place clean?

You know, I’ve been looking at that cute rat of yours, in your header, for years, and I’ve never been sure that it’s really a rat. Looks more like a squirrel. Just sayin’.

  2. ricardipus says:

I’d never noticed either the maze, or the interesting graphics to the left of it before.

  3. rpg says:

There’s a story behind those interesting graphics, which I will tell you over a pint.

  4. cromercrox says:

I never noticed the maze or the interesting graphics – until ricardipus mentioned them. Spooky.

  5. Alejandro says:

We’re talking about “Rabito” the roguish rabbit?

  6. Khalil A. says:

Well nice intro post my friend.

  7. rpg says:

Thanks… It was supposed to be a placeholder, and I was going to write a proper intro post… but then Lou Woodley locked me out of my NN blog and I was too angry to do anything. Apart from handle the twitter storm.

  8. Hey rpg,

I got your message – was your request for me to post something over at NN? Yes, I’m still able to log in (for now), although I’m not planning on adding any new content over there at the moment.

    Cheers!

P.S. The new home looks wonderful!

  9. Congratulations to you and other former NNers. Great to be able to post a comment without having to log in!

  10. rpg says:

Thanks folks! Hopefully the dust will settle down soon and I’ll be able to write something worth reading.

I think that graphic on the left of the rat is the lion from the ‘pre-rebranded’ USYD livery… do I win a prize?

  12. rpg says:

Yes! Your prize is a recipe for curry sauce.

  13. Georg says:

That definitely is rat. I can vouch for that. And the Sydney lion 😉

Hope it all goes well in your new home rpg.

  14. rpg says:

Hey! Great to see you Georg! And thanks 🙂

Sid has been following me around the internets. We love him.

One downside of running your own place – you have to fix it when it breaks. I tried to be notified of followup comments to a post. I got sent an email that said ‘[The End Of The Pier Show] Please confirm your subscribtion’ [SIC]. When I clicked the link I got this error message:

    Error while fetching database record
The End Of The Pier Show Comment Subscription Manager

[email protected] is not subscribed to any posts on this site.

As I’m also asking to be notified of followup comments here, it will be interesting to see if the same error occurs.

Seriously, you ought to have somewhere to post problems with the site, rather than having to put them as comments to a blog post.

  16. Brian Clegg says:

Quick update – the subscription worked here, but still won’t work on Henry’s.

  17. rpg says:

Brian, yes, that’s a known bug, and very puzzling. I might have to rip out the plugin and start it again.

There is a place to report bugs, see http://occamstypewriter.org/community/

Part of the thing about last night is I never had a chance to write up such things, as I was handling the #NNgate flak.

  18. Brian Clegg says:

Thanks, Richard. It might be useful to make that clear on the site’s home page.

  19. rpg says:

For sure. You might appreciate that things got a little frenetic yesterday.

  20. Brian Clegg says:

Indeed. And it’s a beautiful thing.
