Merry Christmas

Christmas

All being well, I’ll be at Midnight Communion when this post goes live. It’s the first I’ve been to in a good number of years. It’s been a stressful time recently, what with one thing and another (getting this place live was, in a way, the least of my worries). I’ve barely managed to get cards off to family and my goddaughter. So if you haven’t heard from me, it’s nothing personal and hopefully I’ll get my act together next year.

In the meantime, a very merry Christmas to you all, and every blessing for 2011.

…and, of course, right back at you (and yours) for Xmas 2010 and New Year’s 2011.

You too, RPG. Sometimes all a chap wants is a bit of peace and quiet. I got some very nice socks for Christmas, which at my age is the best present ever.

    Ditto that.

“I got some very nice socks for Christmas”

And I got a very large fleecy zip-up jumper.

    I detect something of a middle-years theme emerging…

I’m afraid I must be reverting to childhood. Jenny got me an espresso maker (NOT, as she keeps reminding me, a ‘coffee machine’) and a remote control helicopter.

    So I’m happy.

  5. Happy Christmas to you too!

Socks are good. I got 4 pairs, and Mr E Man got 9 and is as happy as Larry. We were just saying yesterday how the presents you dreaded as a kid are what you want now! (Although I was apparently an anomaly amongst the group of assorted waifs and strays we gathered together for Christmas in that I always loved getting book tokens).

  6. Which goes to show that we give what we want. Or something like that.

Best of end-of-year-holiday wishes to all of you. You’re a great bunch of provocateurs.

We went to midnight mass for the very first time, for me, and the first time for all of us, in Provence. It was begun by a local re-telling of the Christmas story to allow terracotta, costumed, statuettes to be paraded up to the empty creche, punctuated by songs in Provençal/Occitan. That was quite picturesque, in a fortified church dating back some 800 years or more.

    Wow.

I’m still trying to clear the incense from my lungs. Our parish church is on the stratospheric side of ‘high’.

  8. Bob O'H says:

    No socks for me. *sniff*

Grrl did get a plastercast and some bandages for her arm as a Christmas present from the hospital.

  9. ricardipus says:

Heh. Add me to the “socks received and happy” crowd. The resulting throwing out of old and threadbare socks made Mrs. Ricardipus happy too, so success all ’round there.

  10. cromercrox says:

my nouveau socks came in very handy (or perhaps footy) at today’s rather chilly football match in which the Canaries blunted the Blades 4-2. Bob – do give Grrl my best wishes and advise her not to tangle with giant man-eating parrots in future.
