Lab-fab abs and post-lab flab

And bend and stretch and rack those tips and run to the water bath to rescue your samples and walk to the fridge to put them away and lift that big heavy bottle of isopropanol onto your bench and run to the store room to get more tips and rack those tips…

When I worked at the bench, it didn’t feel like a particularly active job, especia Continue reading

Train

I write this blog one-thumbed on my iPhone in a standing position on a packed train leaving Liverpool Street. It’s leaving 20 minutes late because the staff needed a break, because the train was an hour and a half coming in (thinks: National Distrust Eat Strangular, the so-called train operator just about to lose its franchise because it̵ Continue reading

Zoo

This afternoon the Croxii were guests at a private function at London Zoo. We got a chance to toddle round the exhibits. Being us, we were especially keen to visit the reptiles and amphibians…

Nicosia, there I went…

A short time ago Larnaca, Cyprus made the news for holding a large civilian wedding for multiple couples from Israel.

A Houstonian’s Reluctant Ode to Atlantis, STS-135 [12]

*Soundtrack: Last Rendez-Vous (Ron’s Piece) ~ Jean Michel Jarre

I’m not a technophile, and harbor no Top Gearian tendencies to become emotional over a BMW or an Opel Cadet or a flight in a jet fighter; I’m much more likely to respond in that manner to nature programs featuring elephants, penguins, sea turtles, monarch butterflies, Continue reading

ConFabulation

Fables from the Fountain is an anthology of science-fiction and fantasy stories done as an hommage to Arthur C. Clarke’s Tales from the White Hart and also to raise money for the Clarke Award, which encourages new British SF writing. As I believe I mentioned earlier, it contains stories from many of the best and brightest names in British SF Continue reading

Resonant Penguin

Yesterday Crox Minor came home with this picture (pastels on paper, not finished yet) of a penguin serving in World War I.

She was tickled to learn of rpg’s similar explorations – of which she had hitherto been completely unaware – of the martial nature of penguins. Morphic resonance, that’s what I call it.
