On the two cultures

I get all my pharma industry news from Derek, as well as the occasional reminder of how hardcore chemists can be.

But today he made me laugh, and then shake my head, by linking to some comments on an inspirational book.

I can’t do it justice. They start like

Steve Stefano is a living, breathing example that dreams and desires do come true. It is his ‘Never-say-never’ attitude with a punch of positive enthusiasm, a pinch of passion, and a spoonful of compassion that makes Steve’s approach to life–and leadership–so irresistible. I wanted to read all about it!

and just keep getting better. You can’t make this stuff up.

  1. Richard Wintle says:

The last comment, from GSK’s counsel, was excellent. I love it when things “stick to me like oatmeal”. Especially oatmeal.

  2. Cristian Bodo says:

He must feel so good, with all his employees competing to see who writes the most sycophantic comment about his book. Truly the mark of a leader

  3. Eva Amsen says:

“The spontantaniuos standing ovation lasted forever.”
I feel this sentence could be further improved by adding the word “literally” in there. Otherwise, it’s my favourite quote on there. Not the most “spontantaniuos”, maybe, but still…

  4. Richard Wintle says:

I think I used to work with a Greek guy called Constantinos Spontantaniuos.*
    *possibly not true

  5. Richard P. Grant says:

Eva, I did a bit of subliminal error-correction there and read “spontaneous ovulation”.
Working too hard. That must be it.

  6. Henry Gee says:

    Tolkien At His Best.
But seriously, I have two cultures. I’m fairly sure one of them is behind the sofa.

  7. Katherine Haxton says:

Hard core, eh? Better than being a cell pusher…

  8. Richard P. Grant says:

I’ll just, um, let you and Jenny fight it out and watch from the sidelines.
