You know how you sometimes get the feeling that people are really stretching to make their acronym fit their project?
Well, the following NIH grant RFA actually did a pretty good job:
Biobehavioral Research Awards for Innovative New Scientists (BRAINS)
Tee hee!
(Link for any BRAINiacs who might actually be interested in the grant)
My favourite acronym is BRAHMS, for Bath Rock and Heavy Metal Society.
I bet that’s confused a few people!
MaRS, where my lab is, was apparently just called that for random reasons. Then they made up “Medical and Related Sciences” and went with that as acronym for a while, but it’s now back to just being a weirdly capitalized name.
See the sidebar here
Making Acronyms Randomly for Scientists?
I like it!
I had a friend applying to random odd jobs to pay rent when she graduated, including “Account Service Specialist.” I thought it was an interesting choice job title…
And the “Moro Islamic Liberation Front” … that was just an unfortunate coincidence on their part.
I dunno, I’ve seen several bloggers refer to themselves (or more frequently, colleagues) as ass professors…
They’re the ones who end up doing the donkey work.
