IT just upgraded me to Office 2007. I like the new Outlook email interface, but Word 2007 is confusing the hell out of me. It just took me ten minutes to find the Undo button.
Oh, and IE7 did not solve my issues with Google Documents crashing and Google Reader not loading at all. I get grant opportunity and journal table of content alerts via RSS, so this is not good!

More reasons to switch to a Mac. I know you don’t dictate IT policies. But there is a radical idea for you.

That’s one of the reasons I’m using an antique version of Office myself. It seems like each new version adds a bunch of new and largely unnecessary (for me) features.

Hang in there. I’ve been using Office 2007 for 6 months and it is much better, you’ll get used to it. I know it is a real headache till you figure out the rationale behind where stuff now is, but for me it became quickly much more intuitive than the previous versions. Maybe I’m just a power user, but I like the features and the improvements from edition to edition. If I go backwards I really feel it.
It’s a good opportunity to learn some key-board short cuts for your most used commands(e.g. undo = ctrl+z). They don’t change those from version to version (however some differ from language to language!) so using a new version doesn’t prove such a big problem until you have to find the more specific features – but I also often spend quite some time looking for those in a version that I know well…
Have you ever tried browsers beside IE7? Like Firefox, or the latest hot thing, Google Chrome?I have always disliked IE – firefox is pretty cool though. Bad thing about the mac – Google Chrome isn’t available for it yet, so I can’t speak to that browser.

Keyboard shortcuts – good call, I know a few but not e.g. undo.Phizzle, Dr J is correct – I’m stuck with what IT give me and can’t download ANYTHING. I use exclusively Firefox at home – oh, and Safari on miPhone obviously!Dr J, I like the overall look of the new versions, but like you say it’s just taking some time. Not ideal timing given that I have an out-of-town boss sending me requests for poster edits, and need to have some other documents done by the time he gets back early next week!
Just remember to set your save default to 2003-compatible! Our IT did the same thing, and it’s annoying trying to figure things out. And Power Point seems much less friendly and flexible.
I agree about PowerPoint. Word is starting to make more sense though.
