Friday clock watching

Brian’s recent post touching on the “watchmaker” argument used by intelligent design proponents reminded me of this extremely elegant experiment, in video form.
The video is about 10 minutes long and should be fairly self-explanatory for anyone with any training in evolutionary biology, although my husband did require some additional commentary when I showed it to him. Funnily enough, he had a harder time understanding the creationist argument than the evolutionary theory…
There are some interesting extra details from the video’s creator on YouTube, under the “more info” link in the top right corner.
Enjoy…

Neat video Cath – and I guess that is the first time that clock sex has been shown on the internet…!

  2. Eva Amsen says:

Is that Coldplay that’s playing in the background? It sounds like it (but then again, everything does ). Blaaagh…

  3. Cath Ennis says:

Well, first time on NN at least, Stephen!
Eva, yes it is – Clocks, appropriately enough, from their second album. You know, back when they were still good…

  4. Brian Derby says:

Very neat Cath. I will get my son to see it. He will probably be more interested in the Coldplay as he is trying to play Clocks on the piano at the moment.

  5. Cath Ennis says:

I hope the piano playing is of a reasonable quality… there’s a reason why my parents got me an electric keyboard with headphones instead, and encouraged my interest in the classical guitar over my interest in trumpets and French horns.

What a fantastic video, Cath – thanks for the link!

    It’s pretty cool, eh?
There are some very ingenious people in the world. I wish I was that clever…
