Where in the world is Cath this weekend?

Guesses in the comments please! I’ll add more photos later if you’re stumped.

Second photo now added – people already have the right answer, but I wanted to show you what the rest of the fence looks like!

Looks like an east coast US beach because of the pilings with no dock. But the sand is similar to Californian sand, and I know that you are back so you can't have flown across the country and back so fast. I know that your friend was probably there for a conference, but I can't find out where that is because a Google search for "scientific conference July 2009" brings up nada in the continental US. My powers of deduction are failing me….

I was going to say tofino but now infinite science has me confused!!

  3. Propter Doc says:

    Oregon coast somewhere?

  4. Lisbeth says:

Yay – I love quizzes. I'm with infinite science on California. A more specific guess… Ventura?!

  5. ruchi says:

Looks like San Diego to me, but I'm always bad at this kind of thing!!

  6. Massimo says:

San Diego, I would say… Torrey Pines ? Blacks Beach ?

  7. Eva says:

    It's a beach!

Ruchi and Massimo have it right! I'm in San Diego (not back until Tuesday, IS), or rather La Jolla, for meetings today and tomorrow morning, but flew down on Saturday to hang out with an old labmate who lives here now. The fence in the photo is actually the very Western tip of the US-Mexico border. Surprised? I was… I'll add another photo, about 200m further East, when I'm done with this comment. Yes, you can basically swim around it, but I don't recommend it, as there are cameras pointing at it, a border patrol guard with a gun sitting right behind where I took the photo from, and helicopters overhead. The beach is a State park, but except for border control and 5 people on horses, there was no-one else there. We saw dolphins surfing in the waves – mega cool!

  9. Bob says:

Oh, so it wasn'y Bognor regis, then. Biy do I feel stupid.

  10. Bob says:

And I feel even worse for previewing, but not checking the preview.

  11. Cath@VWXYNot? says:

Wasn'y sounds a bit Scottish – very fitting as the friends I was with are Scottish!

  12. ScienceGirl says:

Ah, I am late for this – San Diego was my guess 🙂
