It’s too quiet around here

Some of us are still at work, and need our blog buddies to help break up the day!
So let’s discuss what we want / are getting for Christmas!
I gave my husband a few suggestions, and wasn’t supposed to know which one he’d chosen. But then he asked me to get something from the car last night, forgetting that they were loose in the boot (trunk). D’oh! Oh well, I was at least able to verify that he got the right kind!
I’m getting these:

(Mass and surface area and flotation and stuff. Is too science!)
We’re heading to my sister-in-law’s place on Thursday for ten days of family, food, drink, fun, and skiing. A white Christmas is 100% guaranteed.
Merry Christmas and a happy New Year to one and all!

Take me snowshoeing!! K. has a pair too, and we’re tentatively planning a day trip in Jan. I need to rent mine but I might just spring for a pair…
I’m stuck at work still too – except apparently people are still working (and STARTING experiments!?!) and I’ve been busier in the past two days than the last two weeks.
T = 1 day 3 hrs until I can put the out-of-office on and I’m not liable for anything that can happen!

  2. Cath Ennis says:

    Ooh, count me in!
Wanna go for coffee tomorrow? I need to pay you for those concert tickets!
I guess I shouldn’t really use Nature Network as a substitute for personal email, eh?

  3. Alyssa Gilbert says:

Ooh, snowshoes!! Are you going to use them when you go to your SILs place?
We decided to have a spending limit this year of $50 (boo! LOL), so I seriously have no idea what I’m going to get from the hubby. I’m thinking a popcorn popper, but not sure. Although, we did just buy me a Nikon D90 on the weekend, so I guess that’s good enough 😉
Too bad our time in Vancouver doesn’t overlap – it would have been fun to meet up!

  4. Cath Ennis says:

I sure am! There’s a lovely steep hill just over the highway, which might make for a good appetite builder on Christmas Day. My time in the ski resort half an hour away will probably be spent exclusively on skis, though.
    I think a camera’s a decent enough gift!
I didn’t know you were coming to Vancouver! Bad timing – I’ll be gone from Dec 24th – Jan 3rd inclusive. Maybe next time, eh?

  5. Eva Amsen says:

I have no clue what I’m getting, at all! I think at least one book from my friends, and I hope I’m getting a 2010 moleskine planner from my mom again, otherwise I can’t be held responsible for being completely disorganized starting 11 days from now…
I’m getting several people an Envirosax for Christmas. I love mine so much! I already got three people at my old job to buy one, and it was the most useful thing (after money/credit card) I brought with me when I was traveling through Australia. I bought three to give away, but I’m secretly only giving two and keeping the third (this one ) for myself. When I bought this bunch, the guy selling them was also so excited about them and also got them for all of his friends for Christmas. Way too much excitement about grocery bags!

  6. Sabbi Lall says:

Last time I wore snow shoes I just sank (those are snow shoes?). All I want for Xmas is Downey Jr as Sherlock Holmes (gee, I’m the luckiest Gal in the world!!!).

  7. Eva Amsen says:

When I said 11 days, I meant to say 8 days. I somehow thought a week was a decimal unit, that’s my excuse.

  8. Sabbi Lall says:

They are snowshoes – really fancy compared to the tennis rackets I was wearing.

That is nothing compared to my dear boyfriend – he is getting me some summer clothes for our trip which he ordered through mail delivery – only problem was, they were delivered with a delivery company, and since he is working as a consultant with no fixed work address he had them sent to me (where I had to sign for the package next to the description of what it contained). But it’s going to be a great gift so that’s fine 🙂

Hey, I understood you were writing in base 7.
I don’t know what I’ll be getting for Christmas, but snow shoes won’t be terribly useful around here.
If you’re still at work, and still bored, you could always do some holiday reading.

Oh, oh! Since we’re sharing gift-giving guffaw stories: Since my now husband didn’t (and still doesn’t) know how to drive a standard, I had to drive him to the Fedex depot to pick up my engagement ring! LOL

  12. Cath Ennis says:

Sabbi: yup, those are snow shoes! You really tried the old tennis racket style? I’ve only ever seen those as decoration on the walls of ski lodges! I think the technology has moved on somewhat… although sinking vs. gripping does depend on the kind of snow.
Eva: oooh, that’s pretty! I like the idea of using them as wrapping paper too. Maybe next year!
Anna: those little labels saying what’s inside the package are such a pain! I always try sooooo hard not to look, but they’re so fiddly to peel off that you have to get in quite close. So I have a pretty good idea of what my Mum’s sent me this year… I’m glad you like the gift you had to sign for!
Bob: I thought you had lots of snow there? Thanks for the link, that’s a great festive story!
Alyssa, that’s hilarious! Did you know what you were going to pick up? My husband proposed without a ring, after spending 3 weekends in a row dragging his best friend around every jewellers in Vancouver and still not being able to decide what I might like!

  13. Åsa Karlström says:

Cath> those look fantastic. Very futuristic (I still have old fashioned snow shoes on my brain 🙂 )!
It’s funny though, forgetting the presents in the boot and sending you out toget something. I guess though, that it really doesn’t matter? You got surprised?! I’m trying to convince myself this since the last couple of times the pressies have not really been left for the “actual” day due to things as you mentioned (the gift description on the parcel etc)
I’m more of a opening at the day of kind of person, but now I do seem to feel happy whenever I get surprised 🙂
Alyssa> I remember reading that story. I think it is one of those “reality clashes with what you planned but the important part is to remember the joyous occasion (and have a good laugh about it afterwards)”. It might be hard sometimes though 😉 [me? nooo…. ehh.. maybe]

  14. Cath Ennis says:

I haven’t had a chance to try them yet! I wanted to go snow shoeing while my husband enjoyed his present from me (a 2 hour snowmobile tour), but he wanted me to go with him, so I spent the time almost being bounced off the back seat and screaming like a wee girl for him to not go so fast… snow shoeing is much more serene and enjoyable (for me). There wasn’t enough snow down in the town where my in-laws live, and we spent the whole of the rest of the time “up the mountain” skiing instead. I’ll have to plan a trip to the local mountains some time soon!
