I know, I’m shameless.
Some friends of mine make a little extra money by breeding their pedigree Giant Schnauzers every couple of years or so. They’re absolutely gorgeous, friendly dogs, and I wish we had the space and the lifestyle to take one of the latest litter, born just a few days ago.
My friend Rich and his daughter Jess took these photos, which they’ve given me permission to share with my readers as a Christmas treat!
Before: that’s one pregnant pup!
During: the first pup was breech, which caused some stress to first-time mother Eden and her owners, but she came through in the end. The other eight followed normally in an epic 14 hour labour!
After: mother and nine pups are all doing very well indeed, if a little knackered!

Oh wow. Just wow. I can’t believe the sight of that teeny paw stuck in the… something. What is that? Did the owners deliver the puppies themselves? So nerve wracking, but so adorable in the end!
wow, that does look a bit interesting… although, I am happy loking at the picture in the end 🙂 So cute pup and mother!
That last picture is adorable! What exactly is going on in the second?
The thing in the first picture is the amniotic sac. The photo was taken about halfway through the breech delivery, so the puppy was half in and half out, and the sac was still intact.
And yes, they are soooooo adorable! My friends are keeping the female that was born breech (their older Schnauzer – Eden’s mother – isn’t going to be around much longer, and they always have two dogs!), and selling the remaining five females and three males.
Anna, the owners did indeed do everything themselves! It was the dog’s first litter, but the owners have been there and done that, a few times now.
Completely adorable and the sac/paw is really interesting (but also cute, that wee tiny little paw!).
But what’s with the red glow on the sac? There is no puppy, only Zuul.
It’s either a demonic hell hound, or the reflection of the heat lamp 😉
Zuul! Cool.
Oh yes Zuul- good times!!
Sorry, I couldn’t help myself after seeing your comment!
Now back to PUPPIES…
Touché!
“Dogs and cats, living together…”
Chairman Meow gets in on the action.
owww… how small…and SO cute…. (i am so happy I don’t live there right now, then I would have to explain the puppies coming home with me)
Don’t forget the kitty cat also really cute!
@Cath: Do you think that a black cat named Obama would get along with a little puppy? I could name the puppy Barack? Because let’s be honest, being able to to yell “Barack!” “Obama” in my condo would be THE awesome.
As it was, my friend yesterday asked my cat Obama if “he felt accomplished by getting that health care bill finally passed”. The cat continued to ignore him 🙂
Åsa, I almost brought my nephew’s kitten home with us yesterday… I came into the living room with the kitten sitting on top of a load of sheets I was carrying, saying “just one more load into the car and we’re ready to go”, and my 8 year-old nephew threw himself towards me shouting “nooooooooooooo!”
I was only half-joking…
Sabbi, yes, these friends excel in the cute pets department!
Kyrsten, I think a Giant Schnauzer might be a wee bit big for your apartment… and that it’s a wee bit early for your cat to celebrate the health care bill!
I am shocked, shocked I say, that Henry hasn’t been by with a pic of a cuddly dog yet.
Good point. Henry?
