Anti-prorogue rally: Vancouver details

Just a quick note for local readers about tomorrow’s anti-prorogue rally. The rally starts at 1pm at the Vancouver Art Gallery, and I’m going to be meeting Kyrsten and other friends at 12.50pm outside Future Shop (the entrance on Robson, next to the Ecco Store) before walking down. Feel free to join us!

The organisers would like everyone to wear red and white and carry Canadian flags. I have one from my citizenship celebrations, and I’ll be wearing my Team Canada hockey jersey. It’ll be too cold to show off my tattoo, though…

I heard that the pro-prorogue counter-rally was canceled because of the Olympics. Some people were unhappy at this, and are arranging an anti-prorogue pro-prorogue rally.

When you first mentioned this novel development I was anti-pro-prorogue rally, but given that this is all about democracy and associated rights like free speech, I've changed my mind and am now pro-anti-anti-pro-prorogue rally. We really need a new name for prorogue. I suggest "that outdated practice last used in 2009 by Stephen Harper just before he was voted out of office, marched to the East Coast by an angry yet polite mob, put on an iceberg with a case of Labatts, and pushed into the North Atlantic".

  3. Kyrsten says:

If only Harper was stuck on an iceberg with only Labatts. You know, he only drinks Diet Coke. Ever. Even at state dinners, he refuses to drink even non-alcoholic sparkling wine. I sadly know this because a brother of a friend is one of his aides (and yet is not a Conservative, which is odd).We have a Diet Coke-swilling Prime Minister.

Offtopic: OMG AWESOME TATTOO ZOMGBBQAPPLESAUCE! I'm so jealous I don't have such sweet cross-cultural heritageness that can be so neatly turned into an epic tattoo.

  5. Cath@VWXYNot? says:

Kyrsten, for real?! There's nothing wrong with diet coke per se, but insisting on drinking it at a state banquet where everyone else is (presumably) sipping fine wines is just another example of Stephen Harper embarrassing Canada on the international stage.BTW, was your friend's brother always a non-Conservative? Or did working for Harper turn him that way?Hermitage, hey, the whole world's at least part Irish… go for it!

  6. Kyrsten says:

Cath, I don't know. I think he was a Liberal. Sheep in Wolf's clothing, so to speak.

  7. Alyssa says:

Oh, good luck at the rally! Post pictures and a summary if you can.

  8. Cath@VWXYNot? says:

Will do! I'm taking my regular camera, plus the cute flip video camera thingy my sister got me for Christmas that I haven't properly played with yet. As long as the po-po don't confiscate them, I'll be posting the results next week!

  9. Cath@VWXYNot? says:

    Thanks, Milan! Looks good!
