Well, it was a week where the rich got richer and the poor got poorer…
Lavaland’s 30 points saw her hold on to top spot, but it was The Week Of The Ricardipus, as he picked up an impressive 36 points and made a run for the top. Bob looks safe in third, meanwhile, with a very creditable 28 points for the week.
In the bottom half five-eighths of the table I extended my newly forged lead over fifth-placed ScientistMother by a mighty one point, while Chall beat Gerty by the same margin to reclaim sixth place by the skin of her teeth. Gerty and Thomas shared last place in the weekly standings, and so no ground was made up at the bottom of the overall rankings.
Fellow members of the bottom five: I think we need a revolution, a redistribution of points. What say you?
“The Week Of The Ricardipus”. Sounds like a long-lost Hemingway novel, from his later-life “drunk and suicidal in Idaho” period.
However, this will not last, as I have no idea what I’m doing with this week’s picks. Too few good teams playing 4 games…
well, crap. another week where my near-random picking scheme has let me down. *sigh*
My strategy was simply to pick the Finns and Swedes. It’s working pretty well so far.
you know, I’m only picking the swedes/finnish/cool names I like and not the really good ones… then again, I’m not last (yet).
I want more points!!!!!
Ah, you just need to pick the right ones.
I actually changed my picks this week coming up so lets see how it goes. Those damn flames are actually playing again, just messing shit up. Since when does Kipersoff (sp???) get EIGHT points in one week??!!!!!
Are you talking about Kiprusoff?? In Flames? He’s an old fave of mine from the days in the Swedish league π
He’s good. That said, I’ve forgotten to put him as my goal tender since I’ve been busy with Canucks and being tempted by other men…. .bad me. No surprise that I can’t keep up with the Swedes, Finnish and my (three) fave teams π I’ve said already that I’m fickle when it comes to hockey…. if only Sundin would still be single…. duhh…..
Ricardipus, I was thinking more of this album (it’s good – or, at least, it has some good tracks!)
Gerty, have you considered the radical solution of checking player stats rather than picking randomly? π
Chall, tell me about it! Damn Canucks let me down this week despite playing four games (we won 3 of those games, but the “wrong” players scored!)
ScientistMother, I know – Calgary and Toronto are both making a solid push for a playoff position! I was shocked when I saw the standings this weekend – last time I’d checked, the Canucks were the only Canadian team in a playoff spot!
I meant to make my picks on my lunchbreak, right after I posted this update, but I got pulled into two consecutive meetings and missed the deadline. Last time that happened I got the top score the following week, so fingers crossed!
Maple leafs π I love the fact that I might be able to wear that “old school leaf shirt” for St Patrick’s day… (yes, I have one of those – and other ones…. I have way too many NHL shirts to be proud π ) Some saving since my points and scores in the pool suck. But irl I can wear my team(s) shirt and be happy… right?! π
I think I overdid the smileys… sorry. It’s been a rough time so I’m putting them in where I can feel happy!
Use as many smileys as you want, my friend! I hope things get better soon. Hugs!
Thanks! I was referring to the hockey pool π so yeah, I’ll hope that works out better!
..and of course… I don’t really think they’ll make the play offs… but there is always hope! π right?!
Chall – you know what will happen. They will make just enough of a run to get everyone excited, then fail to make the playoffs (or make them and flop out in the first round).
Fun fact – the only Leafs game I’ve been to was the last playoff game they won while Harold Ballard was still alive. As I recall, Bryan Curran was still on the team then, along with other luminaries such as John Kordic, Rob Ramage, Gary Leeman et al. Pathetic.
I hope they make it! And the Flames and Canadiens too! All hope seems to be lost for Ottawa and Edmonton though. It’s very sad that Canadian teams are at the bottom of both conferences.
Yeah let’s hope that you DON’T clean up this week:)
Heh. Monday was awesome. Tuesday… not so much. I’m expecting a mid-pack result this week.
…as things look right now, I’d be happy for more than 2 points….
Guess I still suck. Nothing has been the same since Cath made me brag. *glare*
Well, after you won the world cup pool, I obviously had to employ drastic measures. We can’t have a Yank winning the world cup pool AND the hockey pool, you know.
