Let’s start with an overview of the whole season’s results, NOT INCLUDING the final week’s:
Lavaland led the pool from week 13 onwards, but could she fend off a strong challenge from Ricardipus? And did anything interesting happen in the rest of the rankings in this final week?
Drumroll, please:
And the answers were yes and no, respectively!
Many congratulations to Lavaland for winning the 2010-2011 pool! (And also to ScientistMother for holding on to 4th spot – I thought I might just swing it, but it was not to be!) And, of course, thanks to everyone who played – this was really fun!
Lavaland has set up a playoffs pool, and I’ll send you all the password by email after I post this update. Unfortunately I won’t be able to host as I’ll be away for three weeks right in the middle of the playoffs, but I can contribute an update or two before I go!
Of course, if the Canucks go out to Chicago for the third year running, I will automatically lose all interest in the rest of the playoffs, and will sulk in a corner until the rugby world cup starts in September. I’ve decided that the fact that we’re playing them in the first round is a sign that either a) it’s OUR TIME, and the road to the cup begins with revenge over Chicago; or b) God does exist, and he’s a Blackhawks fan.
GO CANUCKS GO!
Congrats Lavaland!! Sweeet picks!
I see I was the leader three whole weeks of this thing, bah. The last ten weeks I definetly lost my mojo…. apart from this last week that I won!! ๐ Let’s see how the play off pool goes.
After my picks I realise that my knowledge of the East coast is sorely lacking… (I mean, without the Leafs. Although, no surprise there really) I find myself contemplating how much I hold the grudge against the Canadians compared to how much I want a Canadien team to go on … .tricky tricky. I think I’ll stay with the Swede/Finnish/fave team people choice though. Why change a loosing idea?! ๐
At least you led it – I never did! In fact I don’t think I ever quite recovered from my disastrous 5th week.
My West coast picks in the playoff pool are all Canucks, except for the goalie, ‘cos I’m superstitious like that, especially when it comes to Luongo vs. Chicago. (At least we have Schneider-man as a Plan B this year). The East coast is definitely much more of a mystery to me – I know the star forwards, but not the second and third line guys, and hardly any defenders.
YAY HOCKEY, even if I suck at picking a fantasy team. My IRL fave team didn’t make it this year (next year, Avs), so I am jumping on with Vancouver. GO CANUCKS!!! Also, this will *hopefully* give me some fodder to talk trash to some of my Chicago friends.
And thanks for putting together the pool-it was great fun! ๐
Well done Lavaland. You got the picks right this week for sure (and consistently all year long). I, on the other hand, made some dumb choices (um, er, too much Anaheim vs. San Jose… :P).
Roll on playoffs!!! I’m in, although I will really, really stink at this, I guarantee it.
Thanks again Cath for hosting. I’d be sulking too, except I don’t give a rat’s hairy *** about the Maple Leafs. ๐
Woohoo, I kept on to 4th AND did way better than last year. I *think* I could’ve given Bob a run for his money if I hadn’t forgotten to change my pick a few times….that is always annoying. Oh and the change to those annoying PV values – could no longer afford to keep my high point earners!
I was pretty sure by Friday night that you weren’t going to catch me, Cath but I avoided tweeted about so that I didn’t jinx anything. Looks like we both had a stellar week for the points.
thanks for hosting. looking forward to doing better next year :)))
You’re welcome, Gerty! This was fun. And I’m glad you’re supporting the Canucks – Canada’s team!
You’re welcome too, Ricardipus! I suspect I’ll suck at this too (see my first comment).
ScientistMother, you’re welcome too! I was in Whistler from Thursday night to Sunday afternoon and didn’t check any scores (other than the two Canucks games, which we watched, obviously). But it looked promising on, um, Monday? ๐
Do you know, I still haven’t the remotest clue what this is all about? Ah, well. On the Ball, City!
Well done Lavaland! And thanks Cath for organising this 8and everyone else for making it fun).
I’ve no idea how I came third. I just picked the Nordics (well, one player wasn’t Nordic, but he had a silly name).
I just hope there are enough Nordics left to fill a team. and that all of the Finns are out before the end of the month.
Bob, you did better with the Nordic picks than I … As for the end of the month, the 30 April seems like a great date to start playing, since if it goes horrible it’s Valborg anyway…. (read: bonfires, welcoming the spring with song and booze) not to mention the King’s birthday ๐
Ah, it’s called Vappu in Finland. Otherwise it’s the same. I think picking 2 Sedins helped a lot.
oh but I picked those two many times too….not all the time though ๐ and that Selรคnne helped you too i guess….
Cromercrox, you should play next year! It’ll be fun. You know you want to.
Bob, you’re welcome!
The world championship is a strange competition, with players joining their national teams in dribs and drabs as their NHL teams go out. Very weird timing. But the Finns won’t have a full contingent for quite some time – don’t you know that if you want to win [the Stanley Cup], you gotta have a Finn? The Canucks have Sami Salo, but he’s almost guaranteed to get injured at some point in the proceedings.
That’s OK. Finland usually get through to the later rounds, meet Sweden, rush to a 5-0 lead and lose 6-5.
well… i would think the same but opposite (at least looking at the ost recent history),…. not having too much hope in my little home team…
Do I need any special equipment?
an imac/ipad/iphone with wifi? ๐
