Demons

It has come to my attention that many people are not aware of this simply spectacular song by Fatboy Slim, featuring the substantial vocal talents of Marge Simpson Macy Gray*. This situation is, of course, unacceptable, so please watch this video twice: the first time with your eyes closed, so as to fully appreciate the music; and the second time watching the video, which is also amazing.

There’ll be a test on Monday, so do please pay attention.

That is all.

*my sister once saw Macy Gray in concert and declared her to be certifiably batshit crazy – but awesome.

I really like “That Man” by Macy Gray, although I hated the stuff I heard from her earlier album(s?). The tip of the hat to the “Batman” theme is very clever. 🙂

Also – the video for “Weapon of Choice” by Fatboy Slim is brilliant also – Christopher Walken flying around an empty hotel lobby, and busting some funky dance moves. Creepy in the extreme, but fun to watch.

Fantastic, no I’ve never heard this before but I do quite like Macy Gray.

Ooh, yeah, Weapon of Choice! I remember that one! I’ll have to look the video up again later, it’s great stuff!

I introduced some friends to Demons on a recent camping trip. We were a good few miles north of Whistler, just off a logging road in a beautiful valley surrounded by mountains, with a river running through the camp site. We literally had the entire valley to ourselves – there wasn’t a single other person for miles. So my friend hooked up his stereo (with iPhone dock) to his spare truck battery and we took it in turns to play DJ. Listening to this track ringing out at full blast through the valley, as we sat around the campfire admiring the Alpenglow hitting the snowy mountains in front of us and the first stars coming out, was a very special moment! We danced around the campfire until 2am, and scared all the bears away! (our friends got there the day before us and had a bear poking around the campsite in the middle of the night, so this was deemed important).

Incidentally, my Marge Simpson comparison completely ruined Macy Gray for one of my labmates back when “I Try” was being played on the radio at least once an hour… she probably still hasn’t forgiven me for that!

    “I Try” – that’s the song I couldn’t stand! 😉

I can never quite decide if I like Fatboy Slim or not, but the videos are cool. Guess I’m more “Santa Cruz” than “The Rockafeller Skank”. “Praise You” just annoyed me… but that, oddly enough, was mainly due to the video.

On a peripherally related note, I have some Aphex Twin in my car’s CD player at the moment.

I <3 Fatboy Slim – his own stuff as well as his remixes (as Fatboy Slim and as Norman Cook) of other people's stuff! And I thought the Praise You video was, um, unique? In a fun way though!

I have now come to the conclusion (after listening a few times) that this will be my theme song for the semester 🙂 Question is, should I subject the students to it at the start of each lecture?

    • Cath@VWXYNot? says:

Maybe you could alternate it with Everything’s Not Lost by Coldplay?

(“When I counted up my demons
Saw there was one for every day
But with the good ones on my shoulders
I drove the other ones away”)

Love it! Haven¨t seen the video before but heard the song a lot 🙂 Like the voice of Ms Gray, and like Fatboy Slim too.

(and yey – I got bragging rights for Santa. Thanks Santa!! 😉 )

Despite years of piano lessons it is only now that I figured out how scary pianos can be. Phew.
